Korean American high school students will offer free tutoring in Koreatown… every Saturday starting November 15th
Anyone in grades 1-9 can participate.
Korean American high school students will run a free tutoring program for multiracial students in Koreatown.
NYCC (National Youth Community Center), a youth volunteer organization, held a press conference on the 23rd and announced that the program will run every Saturday (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM) starting November 15th.
Classes will be held on the 4th floor of the NYCC office (4055 Wilshire Blvd) and are open to all students in grades 1-9.
The program includes English, math, coding, robotics, and book club. Top-performing Korean American high school students, including winners of robotics competitions, will serve as instructors, providing not only academic guidance but also college admissions preparation.
This program is co-hosted by NYCC, Boston Education (CEO Su Byun), and California Rising (Chairman Raul Claros), a multicultural non-profit organization.
Chairman Raul Claros explained the significance of this program, saying, “This opportunity for Korean and Latino youth to learn together is the starting point of true community integration.” He added, “Korean and Latino immigrants settled in Koreatown around the same time in the 1970s and 1980s, but have been isolated from each other. This program will attempt to break down that barrier across generations.”
Boston Education Director Sue Byun said, “Sharing the talents of Korean high school students with students who lack access to adequate educational opportunities due to economic reasons is deeply meaningful.”
The tutoring program is open to anyone, with no restrictions on enrollment. While walk-in registration is available, pre-registration is recommended to ensure enrollment. NYCC plans to expand the program to all of Koreatown by increasing participation and adding additional subjects.

한인 고교생들 타운서 무료 과외 봉사…내달 15일부터 매주 토요일
1~9학년 누구나 참여 가능

한인 고등학생들이 다인종 학생들을 위한 무료 과외 프로그램을 한인타운에서 운영한다.
청소년 봉사단체인 ‘NYCC(National Youth Community Center)’는 23일 기자회견을 열고, 오는 11월 15일부 매주 토요일(오전 10시~오후 12시) 프로그램을 진행한다고 밝혔다.
수업은 NYCC 사무실(4055 Wilshire Blvd) 4층에서 진행되며, 초등학교 1학년부터 9학년까지 누구나 참여할 수 있다.
프로그램은 ▶영어 ▶수학 ▶코딩 ▶로봇공학 ▶북클럽 등으로 구성된다. 로봇 공학 대회 입상자 등 성적이 우수한 한인 고등학생들이 강사로 참여해 학습 지도 뿐 아니라 대학 입시 준비도 돕는다.
이 프로그램은 NYCC와 교육기관 보스턴 에듀케이션(대표 수 변), 다문화 비영리단체 캘리포니아 라이징 (California Rising·이사장 라울 클라로스)이 공동 주관한다.
라울 클라로스 이사장은 “한인과 라티노 청소년이 함께 배우는 이런 자리가 진정한 커뮤니티 통합의 출발점”이라 의미를 설명했다. 그는 또 “한인과 중남미계 이민자들은 1970~80년대 같은 시기에 한인타운에 정착했지만 그동안 서로 단절돼 있었다”며 “이번 프로그램은 세대를 넘어 그 벽을 허무는 시도가 될 것”이라고 의미를 부여했다.
보스턴 에듀케이션의 수 변 원장은 “경제적 이유로 충분한 교육 기회를 얻지 못하는 학생들에게 한인 고등학생들 재능을 나누는 것은 매우 뜻깊은 일”이라고 말했다.
과외 프로그램은 인원 제한이 없어 누구나 자유롭게 참여할 수 있다. 현장 접수도 가능하지만, 인원 파악을 위해 등록이 권장된다. NYCC는 참가 인원을 늘리고 과목 추가를 통해 프로그램을 한인타운 전체로 확대할 계획이다.
