‘Making the Streets Clean’: Various Organizations Voluntarily Participate

Large-scale street cleaning operation launched throughout LA’s Koreatown

The Korean community in Los Angeles has once again come together to improve the environment of Koreatown.

On November 22nd, major Korean organizations in LA launched a large-scale street cleaning campaign throughout Koreatown. Each organization emphasized, with one voice, the importance of the community taking the initiative to make Koreatown a better place to live.

With the support of the LA 10th District office, headed by Heather Hutt, and KYCC (Korean Youth Community Center), the street cleaning operation began at 9 AM. Over 100 participants started on Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown, collecting trash from surrounding businesses, removing graffiti, and carrying out other beautification efforts such as sidewalk maintenance.

This event became a platform for collaboration across generations and organizations, with participation from local volunteer groups, youth volunteers, and even other communities. The streets, which had become dirty over several months, won’t become clean overnight, but continuous efforts will surely result in safer and cleaner streets.

This activity, driven by the voluntary participation of the Korean community, is receiving positive feedback from the wider community as well.

LA 한인사회가 한인타운 환경 개선을 위해 다시 한 번 힘을 모았습니다. 지난 11월 22일, LA의 주요 한인 단체들은 한인타운 곳곳에서 대대적인 거리 청소 활동에 나섰습니다. 각 단체들은 모두가 한 목소리로 우리 스스로 한인타운을 보다 살기 좋은 환경으로 만들어야 한다고 강조했습니다. 한인타운을 담당하는 헤더 허트 LA 10지구 사무실과 KYCC의 지원으로 아침 9시 거리 청소 작업은 시작됐습니다. 100여 명의 참가자들은 한인타운 윌셔 대로를 시작으로 주변 상가의 쓰레기를 수거하고, 낙서 제거와 보도 정비 등 환경 미화 작업도 함께 실시했습니다. … 이번 행사는 지역 봉사단체와 청소년 봉사자들 그리고 타 커뮤니티까지 참여하면서 세대와 단체를 넘어선 협력의 장이 됐습니다. 수 개월이 지나며 더럽혀진 거리. 단기간에 깨끗해지지는 않겠지만 지속적인 노력은 한층 안전하고 깨끗한 거리를 선물해줄 것입니다. 한인 사회의 자발적인 참여로 이뤄진 이번 활동은 지역사회에도 긍정적 반응을 얻고 있습니다.
